What to do for Mother’s Day

With the holiday fast approaching, you may be asking yourself: How do I make this Mothers’ Day perfect for my mum? Indeed, knowing that you have to figure out gifts and occasions can be a bit stressful. However, it can also be a great deal of fun! This is an opportunity to show your mother how much you care for and appreciate her. So, this year, consider the following ideas for how to make this holiday special.

o Follow Traditions – Fortunately, when it comes to figuring out Mothers’ Day gifts, some of the work is already done for you, as there are certain traditions that are basically expected of any mother’s child on this holiday. For example, you might want to pick up some flowers from Marks & Spencer, and if at all possible you should take your mother out for a nice meal. These are simple but traditional gestures that your mother will surely appreciate.

o Spend Time Together – Thanks in large part to product advertisement, etc., there is a great deal of focus on finding physical gifts for your mother. However, you should also try to remember that your mother’s favourite part of this holiday is probably being able to spend some quality time with her children. So, if you can, find an activity to do with your mother, rather than simply a gift to give her.

o Find Personal Gifts – You should of course still have some sort of present to give your mother on Mothers’ Day, and the best way to go about your shopping is to think of something personal for her. There is often temptation to simply pick up a pair of earrings, or something of that nature – but it shows a good deal more care and preparation if you give careful thought to what your mother enjoys or needs. A personal gift adds a nice touch to the holiday.

Win Trunkisaurus Travel Chum goodies!

This week, we’ve been testing out the new Trunkisaurus suitcase for children. We’ve also got some lovely Trunki goodies to give away.

The Trunkisaurus

The Trunkisaurus is the latest addition to the ever-growing Trunki range. In case you’re not familiar with Trunkis, they’re ride-on suitcases for 3-6 year olds.

Here’s what Emily (editor) and her chief tester, Joel (3), made of it:

Joel on the Trunkisaurus

  • The look: Green with a marbly effect, the Trunkisaurus has painted on teeth and plastic horns so that it looks like a little monster. Joel loved it from the moment it came out the box and can’t wait to take it on holiday.
  • The ride: Joel gave it some rigorous testing by riding it enthusiastically around the house with me close behind in case it tipped – it didn’t. It’s really well balanced and seems about as safe as any other ride along toy, but with the added benefit of being a suitcase too.
  • The storage: It’s really quite spacious in there. I can’t imagine many little ones would need to bring more on holiday than it can hold. With straps on one side to keep clothes in place, and a little pouch for smalls, it’s a fully functional suitcase in miniature. It’s also designed to fit in hand luggage – so your little ones can keep it with them.
  • The closing mechanism: Attractive clips adorn either side but they did attract the interest of little hands. Joel kept playing with them, and I’m concerned he wouldn’t break them if allowed to test them to their limits. On the plus side, it’s possible to lock them using an attachment on the handle, which should stop that happening.
  • The verdict: If you travel a lot with restless little ones, the Trunkisauraus is a good value purchase at £37.99. Thumbs up!
