93 texts a day…

According to a study by Nielson our teens send and receive on average 93 texts a day.

Where do they find the time?

I know a lot of people love texting and sit and text each other all day long, but I am not one of them.

So I asked my girl why she texted everyone all the time… “because everyone does it” was her immediate response. In one swift thought I turned into my mother and on the edge of my tongue is her stock response (which is in case you didn’t know – “if they all put their head in a gas oven would you do it too?”, I am sure all mothers have a variation of it. It must be a whole chapter in that parenting book I never got).

So instead of turning into Mommy Dearest, I thought a few seconds longer about what it was like to be a teen.

  • No one understood (but actually they all did and had knowing smiles)
  • Secretive
  • Closeness with friends
  • Hormones & Puberty (nature’s double parenting whammy, just when you think you are good at parenting, this kicks you into reality and brings you back down to earth).
  • Sleep

Texting suits teens as it appeals to their secretive nature, doesn’t interfere with sleep and allows them to be close with friends.

But 93 a day? ah, that must be the hormones…
